Concept Ideation
This was the very first stage of my project. I started with a vague idea of what I wanted to achieve through my work and that was: finding ways to help both myself, and others, to develop more sustainable habits. I was keen to change the our mindset towards the throw-away culture we seem to be supporting. I explored these themes and objectives through a number of design sprints. Mindful of sustainability principles, I made a conscious effort to use waste materials throughout my prototyping journey.
Exploring a more speculative approach to my concept, I used litter found in my local area to demonstrate a world where litter behaved like a pet dog, following their owner around. The idea was that people would learn to take responsibility of their litter. I then developed this concept by designing an electronic bin on wheels with the intention of combatting littering by autonomously following people in public. I also looked into designing board games that designers could play to help them keep sustainability a prime focus through their design processes - my aim with this game was to find a more playful approach to adopting sustainable practices.
