Tempera

Egg Tempera painting is unique in its characteristics producing crisp, luminous effects that differ from oil. Using egg yolk as the binder, this ancient technique produces a water-soluble paint that dries quickly to an insoluble surface allowing for overpainting with more tempera or other mediums. It is a very permanent technique. I experimented mixing the recipe for tempera with my recipe for the Kaolin clay paint.

Kaolin clay, also known as China clay, is a naturally occurring soft clay primarily composed of the mineral kaolinite. It is usually white or near-white in colour and has a fine texture. Kaolin clay is widely used in various industries due to its versatile properties, including ceramics, paper-making, cosmetics, and agriculture. Kaolin clay is compostable. Being a natural mineral, kaolin clay can break down over time under the right conditions. When used in products that end up in compost, such as biodegradable packaging or natural skincare formulations, kaolin clay can degrade and become part of the organic matter in the compost pile.
