Tele Gran
THE BRIEF
Our project aimed to simplify communication between grandparents and their grandchildren by designing user-friendly devices that cater to both generations' needs. Focusing on the challenges faced by grandparents in using technology and the time constraints of the younger generation, we sought to create intuitive and familiar communication tools.
CONTEXT
The inspiration for our project stemmed from personal experiences of communication difficulties with grandparents due to technological barriers and busy schedules. Research revealed that seniors often find fast-paced technologies challenging, and many existing devices do not cater to their specific needs, leading us to design devices that are simple, familiar, and tailored for seniors.
THE PROCESS
We developed two devices: a key ring device for grandchildren and a traditional-style device for grandparents. User feedback guided our design decisions, emphasising simplicity, familiarity, and ease of use. Positive responses highlighted the devices' vintage aesthetics, user-friendly interfaces, and convenient portability.
THE RESULT
Our final design had two devices: a key ring device tailored for grandchildren and a traditional-style device designed for grandparents. Both devices feature a vintage aesthetic, making them visually appealing and familiar. The key ring device offers portability, allowing grandchildren to carry it anywhere, while the traditional device boasts a magnified screen and simple interface, catering to seniors' needs. User testing highlighted the devices' user-friendly design, with positive feedback on the silicone buttons and screen sizes. The project addressed the communication gap between generations by providing intuitive tools that encourage regular interaction.
